The RAID-System replaces the harddisc in motorola unix computer. The regular lifetime to be expected for the original harddisc is about 5-7 years. In most of the running lines with unix system the harddisc has been in operation already for several years, so failure of the harddisc has to be expected. The original harddisc is not available anymore, as it was some very specific type. In case of failure of the harddisc in unix computer the production line will be down for a certain time. The new RAID-System contains backup power supply and three harddiscs, which keep images of the system data. So if some harddisc or power supply fails, the system will keep running.
