Upgrade of direct drives and peripheral equipment
Manucor S.p.A., the BOPP (biaxial oriented polypropylene) film manufacturer based in Sessa Aurunca, Italy, has taken the next step towards a sustainable film production and international competitiveness. In cooperation with Brückner Servtec, Manucor upgraded another film stretching line to the latest state of the art in record time.
Fast upgrading
The modernization process for the 10-metre-wide BOPP film stretching line already began back in 2021 with an IPC system upgrade during which outdated, and no longer available control elements were eliminated and replaced with state-of-the-art components.
The next step followed in August 2023 with the installation of highly efficient direct drives and the associated peripheral devices, such as frequency converters. In a record time of less than 3 weeks, the upgrades and extensive modernization measures were carried out before the system was put back into operation after a successful dry run. In order to ensure the long-term availability of the plant, two experts carried out a final check of the production parameters and system configurations in the week following the recommissioning.
Focus on strong teamwork
The swift implementation of the upgrade was made possible by the exceptionally close cooperation of the 20 specialists from both companies on site, who combined their expertise and skills to ensure that the entire upgrade process ran smoothly.
Improved film quality and energy efficiency
The benefits of the modernization have become immediately apparent in the increased energy efficiency of the production line since the consumption in the drive section has been reduced by up to 20%.
At the same time, the now more precise torque control of the direct drives and the improved control quality led to a significant enhancement in film quality. Another appreciated advantage is the reduction of wear parts in the line due to the elimination of gears, belts, pulleys and more.
Manucor's COO, Luigi Antonio Martinese, expressed his satisfaction with the successful collaboration and the positive results of the upgrade: “This large-scale project was made possible due to the good technical expertise and collaboration between both companies: Brückner Servtec and Manucor. In just three weeks, both installed and commissioned all new direct drives and peripheral devices, resulting in a stable production line with high quality and efficiency. This is definitely a best-in-class result!”
Manucor will resolutely pursue the path of technological progress also next year, relying on Brückner Servtec as a supporting service partner for its upcoming system upgrades.
We would like to thank Manucor for the trust they have placed in us so far and look forward to continuing to work together!
